David Gene Wells passed away peacefully at his home on September 29, 2018. He was surrounded by loved ones as he left this physical plane to join family and friends who have gone on before. David was a member of Ball Camp Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher to the seniors and as a Deacon. He tirelessly visited shut-ins and sang and spoke at many funerals when called upon. His most requested song was Beulah Land, which he now sings with the angels. He retired as District manager from Meldisco, vendor for K-Mart footwear, with thirty one years of service. He was admired and respected by all who worked for him as evidenced by the many friendships he enjoyed from those years. During his nearly eighty-two years, David touched so many with his humor, singing and humanity, that this world is surely poorer for his passing. His open heart, open mind and open door serves as a model for how we should live our allotted years. As he often told his grandchildren, "Make every minute count." David is survived by Sue, his devoted wife of sixty-two years; his children, Terri, David (Anna), Kendall (Julie), Devin (Connie), Kevin, Dave (Stephanie), Mandy, and godson, Tommy (Connie); grandchildren, Amy (Frank), Katie, Emily, Caleb, Matthew, Olivia, Cruz, Michael, Drew, Mackenzie, Hayleigh, and Alasdair; his sister, Drayma Wells; sisters-in-law, Pat Winkle (Fred) and Betty Wells; niece Lee Ann (Steven) and nephews, Todd and Justin (Angie); fellow Musketeers, Max Knisley and Ron Hill; and his best furbaby friend, Gracie. Special thanks to Dr. John Vannoy, Dr. Stephen Marietta, the nurses and staff at Parkwest Medical Center and the nurses of Covenant Hospice -- caring individuals that prove "there are angels among us." A Celebration of David's life will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Ball Camp Baptist Church. 2412 Ball Camp Byington Road Knoxville, TN 37931. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to be made to Sunshine Leisure Services, a program of the ARC Knox County, as they have made such a difference in the lives of special needs citizens and his most special son, Kevin. Please designate gifts to the Sunshine Recreation Fund online at https://www.sunshinekcarc.com/donate or by mail to 3000 N. Central Street Knoxville, TN 37917. Loudon Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.
