Frederick H. "Jug" DeFord, age 78 of Manchester passed away Sunday, March 21, 2010 in Nashville, TN. He was born in Loudon County, TN August 20, 1931 the son of the late Fred and Elizabeth Watkins DeFord. He retired from A.E.D.C. Fire Department in Tullahoma after many years of service and was a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church. As most everyone knows, his passion was baseball where he served as a Major League Scout for the Detroit Tigers, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Houston Astros. In Coffee County, he coached countless local teams from 1962 until 1998 and then continued on until his passing yesterday. He was also a 33rd Degree Mason and served his country in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Brewer DeFord who passed away September 2004, infant son, Frederick H. DeFord, Jr., infant twin sisters, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna Rhea and Glen Goodwin and Ruth and Robert Peters and a brother-in-law, James A. Chaney. Survivors include son and wife, Steven and Linda DeFord of Manchester, grandchildren, Devin and wife, Missy DeFord of Manchester and Amy DeFord of Manchester; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Garrett and Eli DeFord all of Manchester, brother and wife, Hurley and Jean DeFord of Manchester, and sister, Carolyn Chaney of Loudon, TN. Also surviving are special friends Elaine Haggard and Caleb Cargile and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, March 23, 2010 7:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother Leon Williams and Brother Tom Brantley officiating. Visitation with the DeFord family will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.. Burial will follow Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Watkins Cemetery in Loudon County, Tn. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the graveside at Loudon Funeral Home with Reverend Tom Brantley and Reverend Nick Coker officiating The family suggests memorial contributions to New Hope Baptist Church or to the Daniel Brantley Foundation.
