Georgia McKinney

October 6, 1940 — June 2, 2013

Georgia Maxine Ledford McKinney, 72, of Rockwood, Tennessee passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 2, 2013. Maxine was the daughter of the late Theodore Dallas "Doc" and Annie Isabelle Ledford. She is survived by son, Dr. Ed Sunday-Winters and wife Patti, daughter Emma Mckinney Rowland and husband Cliff, all of Knoxville. Beloved grandchildren; Josh Winters, Will Winters and Hailey Rowland. She is also survived by brothers and sisters; John Ledford of Houston, Texas, Theo Ann Ledford Aytes of Crossville, Tennessee, Jim Ledford and wife Mary of Cookville, Tennessee, and Connie Ledford Helton and husband Mike of Azle, Texas. She is also survived by sister-in-law Virginia Winters Evans and husband Howard of Rockwood, Tennessee. Maxine was loving aunt to Cherry, Kathy, Avery, Alvin, Candy, Angel, Wade, John, Patrick, Christy, Becky, Carol Ann, Eddie, Barry and Carl Sue. She thought of each of them as her own Maxine was born in Ozone, Tennessee. She graduated from Crossville High School. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Rockwood. She set an example for her children to follow by working hard everyday and by caring for others. Maxine was delighted when Ed married Patti and Emma married Cliff because those two marriages would eventually lead her to her true calling of being a grandmother. Joshua, Will and Hailey were the great joys of her life. Words are not sufficient to express all that the arrival of these three meant to her. She made their lives richer and fuller with her unending love for each of them. Her brothers and sisters; John, Theo Ann, James and Connie meant the world to her and she to them. Their companionship through her recent years of illness brought much meaning and pleasure to her. Maxine is survived by a lifetime of kindness shared, assistance offered and friendship given. She had a way of making those around her feel special. Her journey has ended now. She is at rest in the place prepared for her by one who promised to never leave her or forsake her. The hardships and difficulties are over now, but her strength, her resolve and her faith remain as a testimony of what one woman trusting in God can overcome and endure. The memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at First Christian Church of Rockwood, Tennessee, with visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Reverend Danielle Walker and Reverend Brian Johnson of Ball Camp Baptist Church, Knoxville, Tennessee, will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Maxine to Family Promise of Knoxville, PO Box 10184, Knoxville, TN 37939-0184. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at NHC Fort Sanders. The love you shared with her will always be remembered. Her devoted CNA, Amanda, became a treasured friend. To the pastor and members of First Christian Church, your hospitality is a testimony to the truth of the gospel and the presence of Christ in your community, thank-you.
