J. McNabb Sr.

October 18, 1921 — January 22, 2015

J. Y. McNabb, 93, of Loudon, TN, went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2015. J.Y. was the son of the late Samuel and Addie McNabb of the Cave Creek Community. He was the brother to the late Glenn McNabb, Nancy Smith, and Minnie Jo Harvey. He was married to his wife, the late Johnnie Ruth (Nannie) Stafford McNabb, for 51 years. J.Y. is the loving father to his daughter Gail Campbell and husband Peno, his sons Mike McNabb and wife Doris and Ronnie McNabb and wife Connie, all of Loudon. He was proudly called Doc by his six grandchildren and their spouses, Randy & Christi Campbell (Kingsport, TN), Marci & Paul Kimble (Metairie, LA), Jay & Jenny McNabb (Knoxville, TN), Emily & Jeremy Lorenz (Loudon, TN), Taylor & Leigh McNabb (Lenoir City, TN), and Megan & Kevin Watson (Sweetwater, TN). He also had 10 great-grandchildren who kept him young at heart: Jordan (husband Micah), Ellie, Cooper, Junie, Tucker, Rylee Kate, Zach, Alex, Gabe, and Will Parker. J.Y. graduated from Roane County High School in 1939, where he was both a baseball standout and football captain, as well as a selected member of the "All Roane County Eleven." After high school graduation, he received a scholarship to play football for Hiwassee College. However, during the first few weeks of classes, he was drafted to serve his country in WWII. He served in the 3rd Armored Division in the United States Army under General Patton's leadership and was 1 of 10,500 to receive the Purple Heart award during his service. After his discharge from the Army, he returned home and later moved to Loudon to start his family and career. J.Y. was a local banker from 1967- 1985 and served as election commissioner for Loudon County for more than 30 years. He was an active member of the local rotary club and faithfully attended Central Baptist Church. J.Y. enjoyed fox hunting, farming, and was in a bowling league until age 90. He was a true example of how you live your life to the fullest and the importance of God, family, and friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at Central Baptist Church, Loudon, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm and a celebration of life service to follow at 7:00pm. with Rev. Tommy (Bud) Slaton and Pastor Jon Henson officiating. Interment at 11:00AM on Monday, January 26 at Roberson Springs Cemetery with Rev. Gary Cook officiating and military honors provided by the Loudon County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Central Baptist Church (719 Cedar Street, Loudon, TN 37774) in memory of J.Y. McNabb.
