Manda Faye Ola Ballard

Manda Faye Ola Melton Ballard, age 85, of Philadelphia, TN, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 27, 2024.

Faye loved people, especially children. She had a passion for teaching and singing about Jesus. She created what I call a "card ministry," sending thinking-of-you cards, birthday, or just-because to let others know they were loved and in her thoughts. Faye would often call just to say hello or check in on someone. Her heart was so big, solid gold, and filled with so much love. She never met a stranger. 

Faye cherished reading her Bible, and was a true prayer warrior. Her prayers kept us safe and grounded. A strong, faithful Christian throughout her life, she meant so much to so many. Everyone who came into contact with her loved her and would never forget her.

As her granddaughter, she taught me what true love and friendship was about. She was my lifeline; I could call her any time, day or night, and she was always there with a listening ear or a prayer. That woman was my best friend, my everything. I look forward to the sweet day we meet again—oh, what a glorious day it will be. She walked this earth as an angel with halo and wings, and now she soars in glory with her King. 

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Erb and Lula Melton; brothers TJ (Peggy) Melton and Roy Melton; her sister and best friend, Shirley Neloms; sister-in-law Ona Ruth Melton; and nephew Roy Melton Jr.  She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donny and Carolyn Ballard; brothers Jesse (Evelena), Kenneth (Hazel), and Troy Melton; her best friend and very special sister-in-law, Brenda Melton; grandchildren Angie (Jerrod) Byroad, Chris (Mary, Riley) Ballard; great-grandson Tristen Ballard (her #1); several nieces and nephews; and special friend Katie Alexander.

A visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 1 to 2 PM at Johnson Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2 PM, officiated by Dr. Tommy Patterson and Rev. Ted Clowers. Interment will follow at the Johnson Baptist Church cemetery.
