Peggy J. Chambers Rucker, age 85 of Loudon, passed away November 30, 2022 at Sweetwater Hospital. She was a member of Union Fork Creek Baptist Church in Loudon. Peggy started her work career at Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company at age 16 as a switchboard operator; then worked for Sweetwater Hospital Association as an insurance clerk for many years. Peggy’s true love was cooking, entertaining and caring for her family and friends. No one ever left her house hungry. Peggy married her true love, Jack Rucker, on July 22, 1958 and together they had two children, Jane Rucker Bettis and Douglas Jack Rucker.
Peggy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Jack Rucker; parents, Lee and Alice Giles Chambers; brother, Winston Lee “W.L.” Chambers; and sister, Delois Chambers Arnold. She is survived by her daughter and son in law, Jane and Rickey Bettis; son and daughter in law, Doug and Shanna Rucker, all of Loudon; grandchildren, Brandon (Audra) Bettis, Lindsey (Chris) Best, Katie (Hayden) Richardson and Allison Rucker; great-grandchildren, Jackston and Olivia Bettis; loving sister, Virginia Chambers Kyle; extended family, I.J. Rucker and Fran, Joe and Betty (Rucker) Ratledge; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at Wood Village Assisted Living, Sweetwater Hospital second floor nurses and Dr. Beverley.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Loudon County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to The Gideons International. Loudon Funeral Home and Cremations is in charge of the arrangements.
