Thomas Wood

September 6, 1938 — June 11, 2015

Thomas A. Wood, age 76, of the Paint Rock Community, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas S. (Red) Wood and mother, Amanda Frances (Frankie) Wood. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gena M. Wood; brother, Philip Bryson Wood of Loudon, TN; daughters, Deborah Spivey and husband, Russ, of Tallahassee, FL, Cynthia D. Lee and husband, Kevin of China Grove, NC and April S. Wood and special friend, Dave Knorr of Harrisburg, NC; son, John D. Wood of Paint Rock; grandchildren, Alexandra Spivey, Prescott Spivey and Ashley Cunningham; several nieces and nephews. Tom graduated from Loudon High School in 1957 and joined the U.S. Army shortly thereafter. He was an avid sports fan and played football and basketball. He was a member of High Ridge Baptist Church and being a born again Christian more than 40 years, he taught Sunday school, led singing, drove a church bus and participated in other church activities. He was retired from the Carpenters Local in Chattanooga and the Laborers Local in Knoxville. Visitation will be from 4 PM - 8 PM at Loudon Funeral Home on Saturday evening. A home going celebration of his life will be Sunday afternoon at 3 PM at High Ridge Baptist Church. The service will be officiated by his brother, Rev. Philip Bryson Wood. The body will lie in state from 2 PM - 3 PM at the church. Burial will be immediately after the service in the High Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery; military honors provided by the Loudon County Veteran Honor Guard. A special Thanks to the staff of Loudon Healthcare for the loving care provided to Tom in his final days. Arrangements provided by Loudon Funeral Home.
