Yvonne Monk

Yvonne D. Monk, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Philadelphia, Tenn. Yvonne was a retired book keeper. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and gardening. She was a member of the North Tazewell United Methodist Church, Jeffersonville Woman's Club, North Tazewell Garden Club, and Fort Maiden Springs Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermitt C. Monk; daughter, Martha J. Surface; parents, Arra Catherine (Brooks) Davis and Claude Franklin Davis; sister, Margaret M. Henshall; and brother, Claude Franklin Jr. Yvonne is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Anne and William H. Russell, Philadelphia, Tenn., Betty Jo and Douglas W. Melvin, Burke's Garden, Va.; brothers, Robert L. Davis, Knoxville, Tenn., Richard E. and wife Pat Davis, Gainesville, Fla.; sister, Scarlett P. Swall, Leawood, Kan.; and sisters-in-law, Catherine S. Davis, Wytheville, Va. and Kathleen L. Monk, North Tazewell, Va. She leaves to cherish her memory six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Beth J. Melvin and wife Kristin (Josh and Jason), Lewisville, N.C., Daniel H. Surface III, Garner, N.C., and Keith M. Russell and wife Audrey (Reece), Lenoir City, Tenn. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the North Tazewell United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. Arrangements are being handled by Loudon Funeral Home of Loudon, Tenn.
